"For eleven years, the European Meetings in Transylvania have been a major event in Franco-Romanian cooperation on territorial development. In 2022, they will bring together actors from France and Romania in a multidisciplinary framework, to design innovative solutions to meet the challenges of sustainable urban development", Laurence Auer, French Ambassador to Romania.
#SustainCityHack Involves objective 11 of Sustainable Development: sustainable cities are created by transforming mobility and facilitating green transport, limiting traffic in the city center, reconversion of urban land, reclaiming urban space, planning a harmonious and reasonable development of cities.
"In Romania, 55% of the population lives in urban areas, however, we are at the bottom of the ranking at the EU level in terms of urbanization, sustainable and sustainable development of cities. Through the #SutainCityHack event, we want to gather at the same table territorial development experts, urban planners, architects, builders, project managers, entrepreneurs, urban mobility experts, representatives of public institutions, representatives of civil society to join forces and realize the more innovative solutions for the cities of the future.”, Cristiana Bogățeanu, Executive Director of ROTSA (Romanian Tech Startups Association).
Challenges for which teams must find solutions:
- ● Urban mobility – the development of sustainable urban mobility requires the definition of alternative modes of public transport and must aim to improve the quality of life of the city's inhabitants by providing the services they need close to home;
- ● Urban regeneration – urban regeneration aims at revitalizing urban spaces, renovating urban heritage and placing culture at the center of coexistence, transforming cities into pleasant places to live;
- ● Urban planning – sustainable and prospective development – sustainable urban development must be based on a spatial organization that takes into account the challenges of climate change and that ensures air and water quality, clean energy, respect for biodiversity.
